When a child finally arrives into the world from the mother's womb instead of being welcomed into the human race as a human being and taught the rules of the human social game which it must abid to, and when it is old enough it can invent new better rules, it is rather treated as a candidate for becoming a human being later in life. It is told it is not a “full human being”, it is on probation of becoming a human being.
The child is supposed to climb certain systematic social ladders of growth to become a “full human being” to be given the permission to fully participate in the human game. It is taught from childhood that life is a ladder and there’s a “golden goodie” to be gained or attained at the top of the ladder, only it's not told that the ladder has no top.
It is always being prepared for something that is supposed to happen later in life. It is enrolled to kindergarten, then to grade school, then to high-school, graduate school and finally it is ready to join the “world”. It is taught to go to school, get that job and save, get married, start a family and finally when old age catches up, retire and “enjoy retirement” with no energy left and grappling with sicknesses.
In old age when one has already climbed all those social ladders and gotten all the material possessions and social achievements but still feels the same way as they felt when they were starting off one feels cheated. Realising it was all like chasing the wind, there was never a “golden goodie” at the end of the line. One realises that the point of life is right here and now, and that he had be been lie to by being taught to always live in a future that never arrives. He realises that there's nothing to get out of life and that the point of life is life itself. The notion that there's something to get out of life is itself draining.
We're always after the “golden goodie” later in life that we never enjoy the present one, always living for the future and we never enjoy this future when we get it because as soon as we have get it we start living in another future and the cycle continues. Like the donkey with the dangling carrot suspended infront of it, always running to get it. The future can only be enjoyed by those who are capable of living in the present moment.
We're raised in a society that teaches us to always be on the run, always chasing something in the future to fulfill ourselves. Everything we do and all the activities we involve ourselves in have to always have some personal gain or benefits attached to them. We don't know how to play, to dance, to sing, to do nothing, to involve ourselves in an activity that isn't geared towards benefiting us and completely getting lost in it.
The art of doing nothing that we're naturally born with is slowly lost as we grow older and our minds get absorbed in the social game of always doing something to get something. Always trying to improve ourselves by exploiting ourselves and the world around us. We become rigid and serious, unhappy and completely lost, but that child inside us is waiting for us to rediscover ourselves, to become again like a child and find happiness, be in awe looking at the simple little things that don't matter.
It is integrating the child in us with the aldult us that makes the life process easy. Looking at the things that made us happy and lost in ourselves in our childhood lives. Realising that most of our perceived problems in life are nothing but a creation and exaggeration of our minds. Realising that most of our problems do not arise from physical pain inflicted on us or being unhealthy, but rather from our inability to be in the present moment, not allowing ourselves to do nothing, our inability to cultivate a thoughtless mind in ourselves.
We’re like a fruit falling off a tree and nothing we can do about it, realising that stopping resisting the fall and embracing it is our only way out. Living spontaneously, acting without premeditation like a cat moves without thinking about moving.
Making decisions without continuously and thoroughly thinking about it because the number of variables to consider for a certain decision is infinite. Realising that there are no bad decisions because the decisions we make are the right decisions according to the situations at the moment of making them, allowing ourselves to make mistakes and still feel good about ourselves. The journey is the destination, there's nothing to get out of life other than life itself.
