Agreed on all counts - every grace given by God has always been here for us to find. It’s the ego of the individual, the part of us that wants to be “special” or “recognized” for our extreme enlightenment, that keeps us from enlightenment. Once we realize that we are all the same - not separate - our eyes are opened and we can see.

Maybe the real problem is not selfish and unselfish. Maybe the problem is God. Or better said the God of virtue that is pushed onto us. By making the divine virtuous we have cut up the divine with our minds into categories. Much like we tried to conquer everything else with it too. Yet maybe that is a mistake, to cut it up, and not seeing how one and the other don't go separate.

I agree, the image of God, a higher monarchical father that is separate from his creation as presented to us is misleading.
